Hamburg, NY--- Trainer Peter Arrigenna, fresh off his win in the Yonkers Trot with Archangel, just might have another top trotter in his barn, as his two-year-old freshman colt trotter Timothy Patrick won the first NYSS ($40,291) division in 2:01.2, which eclipses the former record of 2:01.3 set last year by Royal Shyster.
It was the first lifetime win for Timothy Patrick ($4.10), who was masterfully driven by Jim Morrill, Jr. Timothy Patrick is a homebred by Arrigenna, who bred the new stallion Crazed to his NYSS champion Princess Deanna, which makes Timothy Patrick a half-brother to another NYSS champion Tuesdays With Mom (2010).
“He was acting up and playing in the post parade”, said Morrill. “But when it came time to race, he was all business. He really only trotted with meaning from the three-quarter pole to the top of the stretch. There’s no telling how good he can be”.
Morrill put Timothy Patrick right on the lead from post five, and he set all the fractions in the race, :30.3, 1:00.2, and 1:32. A :29.2 last quarter-mile put the winner 3-1/4 lengths ahead of second place finisher Insider Access (Phil Fluet). Noble Flight (Stephane Bouchard) came in third.
The other NYSS winners were Therapeutic ($5.90), by Crazed out of the Yankee Glide mare Psychotherapist. He was timed in 2:01.3 with Jim Morrill, Jr., at the controls, and Royalty For Life (RcRoyalty-Bourbon ’n Grits) driven by Vernon regular Chris Lems, who stopped the timer in 2:02.2, and paid $27.00 to win.
