HAMBURG, N.Y. --- After a pair of cancellations due to poor weather conditions over the weekend, Buffalo Raceway will once again try to get the 2018 season off the ground with an 11-race card slated for Wednesday evening (Jan. 17) beginning at 5 p.m.
It will be ladies first in the opener on Wednesday with a full field of eight colliding in the $9,500 Filly and Mare Open Pace.
Little Joke (Bettor's Delight-Town Joke) gets the 3-to-1 morning line nod from the four hole with Billy Davis Jr. in the sulky. The 6-year-old mare has four wins and a second place finish in her last six appearances and looks to add to her $157,250 career earnings.
Voltina is no stranger to the winner's circle after winning eight times in 44 attempts in 2017. Voltina will be guided by Kevin Cummings from the five post and put $69,456 in the bank last year.
Miss Irish Rose A, a winner of 11 races in just 26 attempts in 2017, gets the services of defending Buffalo Raceway Driver of the Year Larry Stalbaum from the six spot. The 6-year-old was last spotted at Yonkers Raceway on January 12 where she tried to cut the mile but faded late and finished sixth.
There will be free programs for both the Wednesday and Friday night programs.
The weekend will also feature $3 off the popular Friday Fish Fry in the Winner's Circle Cafe and $3 off the home style turkey dinner on Saturday evening.
The Winter Harness Racing Handicapping Challenge will also be contested on Saturday night with $850 in cash prizes available. There is a $10 entry fee.
There is racing every Wednesday and Friday night at 5 p.m. while Saturday's action will begin at 6 p.m.
