by Brian J. Mazurek, for Buffalo Raceway
HAMBURG, N.Y. --- It was just two weeks ago that Dontch Remember put in a winning performance over a sloppy track at Buffalo Raceway. She didn't forget how to do it again.
Taking the lead just before the opening marker, Dontch Remember ($5.80) splish-splashed her way to the winner's circle with a convincing 1-3/4 length decision over Ding in the featured $7,400 pace for the mares on Wednesday night (Feb. 24).
Playing give-and-go with Ding, Dontch Remember (Ray Fisher Jr.) cut the fractions with splits of 31.0, 1:01.3 and 1:32.1. In the drive to the wire, no one had the answer for the front-running winner as Dontch Remember easily sailed home in 2:01.4 over the sloppy track. Ding (Ron Beback Jr.) held on for second with Kisses N Kicks (David McNeight III) finishing third.
Owned by Michael Torcello and trained by Gerry Sarama, it was the second victory in five tries in 2016 for Dontch Remember (Western Terror-Dreamside). The win moved her seasonal earnings to $7,000 and to $132,163 lifetime.
Fisher Jr. led the way in the sulky on the soggy night with five victories while Jack Flanigen and Truman Gale each had two wins.
JD Perrin led the trainers with three victories while Ryan Swift and Jerry Nugent Jr. each produced a pair.
Racing will continue on Friday night when a 12-race program goes to the post at 5 p.m.
