HAMBURG, N.Y. --- Another late charge in the home stretch resulted in another victory for Passion R Virginie as she captured the featured $9,000 pace for the mares on Wednesday night (May 11) at Buffalo Raceway.
Passion R Virginie has taken full advantage of the long stretch at Buffalo Raceway in posting her fourth come from behind victory in her last six outings.
Nutmegs Yankee (Kevin Cummings) set the tempo as she posted fractions of 28.3, 58.0 and 1:27.4 scoring from the seven post. Things started to fall apart for her however as the field got close to the top of the lane.
Mach This Way (Ron Beback Jr.) was able to take the lead briefly but Passion R Virginie ($9.10) was rolling three-wide in mid stretch and had a neck in front at the wire to the win in 1:57.2. Mach This Way was a hard-luck second while Charmschooldropout (Todd Cummings) took the show position.
Trained and driven by Shawn McDonough, Passion R Virginie (Shanghai Phil-Decibelle Ray No) is a 9-year-old mare owned by Rocco Stebbins. It was the sixth victory in 15 tries for Passion R Virginie, now a winner of $27,418 in 2016 and $306,896 lifetime.
Beback Jr. finished the night with four wins while Drew Monti, Kevin Cummings and McDonough had two apiece. Kirk Desmond and Mihajlo Zdjelar Jr. each had a training double.
Racing will resume on Friday evening at 5 p.m. with an 11-race program slated.
