HAMBURG, N.Y. --- It may have been an unseasonably cool Wednesday night (June 8) at Buffalo Raceway but Who Says That continued her red-hot streak with an decisive three length victory in the $9,500 Open Pace for the mares.
It was the second straight win for Who Says That (Drew Monti) and the fifth in her last six outings.
Ugly Betty (Kevin Cummings) took the lead and notched splits of 28.3, 58.2 and 1:28.0. While things looked like they might go Ugly Betty's way the entire mile, Who Says That ($5.40) emerged three-wide in the turn and gobbled up plenty of ground in the stretch to bury the field in 1:57.0. Ugly Betty finished in second with V'La Faire (Wade Tomaszewski) taking third.
It was the eighth victory in 20 starts this season for Who Says That (Badlands Hanover-Powercorp), now a winner of $27,262 in 2016 and $54,456 lifetime. The 5-year-old mare is trained by Maria Rice and is co-owned by Vogel & Wags Nags Stable, Chris Shambo and Jack Rice.
Todd Cummings had a five-bagger in the sulky, Monti tripled while Jim Morrill Jr. and David McNeight III all doubled. JD Perrin had a training 'hat-trick' and Richard Roth and Maria Rice added two apiece.
Racing continues on Friday evening at 5 p.m. with a 12-race program scheduled.
